Show up.
Read together.
Every week, high school students and young children come together to read, connect, and discover what they're capable of. One simple practice. Two generations of readers.

The Idea
Kinetic is an early-stage public-interest initiative exploring what happens when older students take meaningful responsibility for helping younger students learn to read.
The model brings older and younger students together for weekly reading sessions, creating opportunities for service, leadership, connection, and literacy practice.
Show up. Read together.
OLDER STUDENTS become Kinetic Reading Mentors.
YOUNGER STUDENTS have someone who shows up to read with them.
TOGETHER they choose a book, sit beside one another, and read.
A Weekly Ritual
Testimonials from Kinetic Reading Mentors:
“I was so nervous walking in. I didn’t even want to go. But then reality clicked in when I got there, they are just kids. Reading with them was the best part of my week.”
“I was nervous because I didn’t want to be embarrassed or humiliated. But it was good.”
“I love being around little kids … they even taught me how to read a word!”
“It fixed my soul.”
“I wish we had more time to read with them.”
“I’m going to tell my friends to do this, too.”
Our First Big Goal: A Million Minutes of Reading Together
Our first year goal is to help facilitate one million minutes of reading together.
And we're working to make every minute more affordable—starting with a goal of $1 per student reading minute.
Because every minute matters. And every dollar should go further.
Help us reach a million.
